Proposed Exchange Change

What are all your thoughts on changing the rules slightly, to make doodle-adding a bit more free. Instead of trying to stick to just newest versions, we could say anyone's free to dip in anywhere old and new. That way it's less confusing and gives a less restrictive feel to the concept.
I know it's like chucking out one of our very few rules, but I personally am all in favour of it. Liberty to the doodles!

Very good idea - I doubt it will lead to anarchy - but if it does we can always change once more!

Ah and then I went and bagsied something... I suppose that becomes unneccessary if we allow this....

Unneccessary, but still fun to announce the bagsying of things!

I think this is a wonderful idea...perhaps a before and after pic with each post so visitors can understand what's going on?

well i made a mistake because i put in a link to the previous doodle of joy's when i should have put in joy's profile page!

would putting a link to the previous doodle in the history line be a good idea - or just a load of work?

I thought it was links to the previous doodle that we put when one was available...

i put a link to the previous doodle unless it's the beginning of the chain, where i put either no link or link to profile - i was always born to confuse people!

Joy Eliz - good idea, but it's up to a contributor whether they do that or not, cos it's a bit more fiddling. Actually if one person does it, everyone else will probably follow suit?

Also, Caroline has suggested using thumbnail pics to illustrate the process in the intro/instructions, and I think something like that down the right hand side might add something...

Keep talking!

I'm confused but that may just be because I've been awake far too long. I'll just watch and see what you all do with your links and do the same, or as close as I can. I like the idea of being able to take a doodle at any stage, but I really hope we still do doodle chains, I like when 3 or 4 of us have worked on the same thing. I also think bagsying is fun and could carry on as some sort of anachronistic tradition that has become redundant but we still like to hang onto anyway!

I'm with Joy Eliz on the link to a page rather than profile when adding a link that isn't to a previous doodle... but since it is normally our own first doodle or most recent addition its up to us where we link, if we want to at all... I don't want rules to put someone off from doodling or joining in!

I love the idea of a before and after occasionally too... but I'll have to remember to do it...

In fact if we are going for the free approach putting in small pics of everything that has come before would open that up even more... hmm... I may have a bit of a doddle today!

I agree Zinkibaru, I like the chain doodles - maybe people will tend to pick things that are still on the front page rather than archives.

Before and after would certainly make it more obvious to newcomers what is going on. I'll endeavour to do it whenever I get around to exchangement.

As regards linking - I agree, no confusing fiddly rules. As long as the names are all there, is the main thing. When a doodle item is put on another blog, the names should go with it, and if they link somewhere then it gives more connection to this blog and/or its creators.
